Our Golden Oyster (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) fruiting block showcases a tropical strain, yielding stunning clusters of vibrant mushrooms with medium-yellow caps and elongated stems. When cooked, these mushrooms offer a mild, nutty flavor and a delightful aroma reminiscent of cashews, complementing a variety of dishes.

Ideal for beginners, golden oyster mushrooms are known for their reliability in producing abundant flushes. They stand out as one of the easiest blocks to achieve subsequent fruitings, promising a second flush or more with the right care and conditions.

Upon receiving your kit:

Unbox the kit promptly and unfold the top of the bag to allow for air circulation. Ensure that the filter patch remains unobstructed to facilitate proper breathing for the organism, ensuring its thriving condition until you are ready to cultivate your fruiting block!

  • Cultivation Guidelines:

To initiate the fruiting process for most mushroom species, a change in environmental conditions is key – adjusting humidity, light, temperature, and oxygen/CO2 levels.

    For optimal outcomes:

We recommend cultivating your golden oyster block in a controlled environment such as a fruiting chamber (like a monotub or martha tent). This reduces contamination risks and enhances the likelihood of success.

    Setting up ideal conditions:

Find the environmental parameters for golden oyster mushrooms on this page under "Temp, Humidity & CO2 guide" and on page 5 of our fruiting block instruction booklet.

    Preparing your block:

Fold back excess plastic tightly and position the block face up.

    Initiating fruiting:

Cut the bag with a single diagonal line or an X. Golden oyster mushrooms can be fruited from the top or side.

    Special considerations:

Golden oyster mushrooms won't thrive in temperatures below 65 degrees. Providing more light will result in a more pigmented cap. Due to their delicacy, handle golden oyster mushroom caps and stems with care to prevent breakage.

    Harvesting guidelines:

Harvest golden oyster mushrooms just before the caps flatten out, taking care to remove the entire cluster to minimize breakage. Note that golden oyster mushrooms have a short shelf life.

    Cultivating different blocks together:

With some compromise, various mushroom species can be grown together in a fruiting chamber. Consider the temperature range and CO2 sensitivity of the mushrooms you plan to grow. Humidity requirements often overlap. Feel free to experiment with different groupings!
